5.13 gears to low?
So i am in the process of setting up my 97 TJ. right now its got 35" BFG's and stock axles. I am looking at a set of dana 44's with 5.13 gears. i had planned for 4.88's orginally. would these be to low for street use? its not a daily driver, but i do plan to use it on the street and highway once in a while.

Re: 5.13 gears to low?
Is there such a thing as too low? It really depends on what motor and/or tranny you have! I just drove a JK 6 speed manual with newer 35's and 5.13's. It was peppy, the gears where quick and it had plenty of power, but it did run out of top end on the highway. the owner plans to go to 37's in the future so the thought was why regear twice, he was willing to live with not so good mileage for a year or so. If you never plan to go with a bigger tire it may be a little low but who says never anymore!

Re: 5.13 gears to low?
the other issue is that 5.13 gears are lower but the ring and pinion have smaller teeth. that could be weaker than say 4.88's. just something to think about.
